JANUARY 2026

édito

Dear Parents,

Before turning our eyes toward 2026 and all the surprises it holds, I wanted to take a moment to look back on the equally exceptional events that shaped 2025.

main

Guided by our theme "Les métiers de la Main / The Crafts and the Work of the Hands", the year began with inspiring encounters. Throughout 2025, we had the privilege of welcoming, in no particular order, outstanding guests who came to speak about their passion and the immense work that led them to success.

Among them, the one and only Alain Ducasse, the Ex Libris duo, Lionel Prudhomme & Barbara Gintz, who spoke to us about leather craftsmanship and the beautiful Harmonie Hermès atelier , the extraordinary magician and performer David Blaine and the hair artist John Nollet. We also welcomed Philippe Beau, one of the 20 ombromanes in the world whose characters, created solely from his hands and light, fascinated the children.

Camille, our ‘Marraine’, also came to meet all of you, parents, to share the incredible adventure that she and her partner experienced when creating the original soundtrack for the film by Michel Audiard "Emilia Perez", which was followed by the Golden Globe, César and Oscar awards they received for it.

All of these exceptional personalities, with their unique and inspiring journeys, answered our students’ questions. These encounters are extremely important at Union School. They all share the same guiding thread: passion. Our aim is to show children that the world of possibilities is vast, but that success only comes with determination and an extraordinary amount of work.

I would like once again to warmly thank all those who so generously gave their time to pass on their values, values that so deeply echo those of Union School.

2025 was also a year rich in outings, all designed to open our children’s eyes, minds, and curiosity. Among many others, your children visited the Picasso Museum, the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Louvre Museum, and the Marmottan Museum. We began the year with a Bonding Day at Hangar Y. They also discovered the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, had the incredible privilege of making chocolate at the Alain Ducasse Manufacture, visited the Clamart farm and La Ferme de Noé.

All of this might feel dizzying - if it were not for the extraordinary energy of your children. Because at Union School, it never stops. All these experiences intertwine - as you know - with daily/weekly learning: French and English, mathematics, chess, philosophy, coding, tennis, drama, singing, time spent in the vegetable garden to explore environmental education and sustainable development, “Learning to Learn” workshops led by Lucia, researcher at CNRS (LaPsyDE – Laboratoire de Psychologie du Développement et de l’Éducation de l’enfant). designed to help students better understand how they learn, develop their cognitive strategies, and build confidence in their own thinking processes

2026 has begun.
Guided by this year’s theme, "Le Souffle /Breath", we have already welcomed Alix de Nanteuil, formerly of Givaudan, who spoke to the children about scent and its powerful connection to memory. And all our students will take part in workshops throughout the year dedicated to the sense of smell.

We have also welcomed "Une histoire au Mur", led by the wonderful Allegra de Maigret. Thanks to her, our youngest students discovered the text "La légende du colibri" and carried out an artistic project with the artist Aurore de la Morinerie. Our Y2, Y3 and Y4 students also welcomed Eugénie Prévert into their classrooms to create work inspired by one of her grandfather Jacques Prévert’s famous poems, "Le Cancre". They will soon visit Jacques Prévert’s apartment at Cité Véron.

Our Year 5 and Year 6 students will explore Paul Éluard’s poem "Liberté", followed by a visit to Paul Éluard’s atelier.

All our primary students have also visited the Château de Breteuil, in connection with the world of fairy tales, a theme they have been exploring during these first weeks of the school year.

Many other discoveries await your children. Among the upcoming visits, the older students will soon go to the Grand Palais to see the exhibitions by Eva Jospin and Claire Tabouret, a visit preceded by a trip to Notre-Dame de Paris to admire the stained-glass windows created by this renowned contemporary French artist. Our younger students will visit the Calder exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, opening very soon. A trip to the Château de Fontainebleau is planned as well. And more to come !

Last but not least, Union School has the immense honour of hosting this year the competition "Poetry by Heart" for primary school students. It will take place on March 27th.

This competition brings together bilingual schools from all over France, each of which sends two candidates. We are currently putting together an exceptional jury, and we will be sharing more details with you very soon.

Of course, we wish the very best of luck to our students!

Dear Parents, I wish you a year as rich in discoveries, exceptional moments, and energy as the one we have only just begun at Union School !

– Barbara

Do you know where the word “bug” comes from in computer science?

It is not just an expression, it comes from a real story that marked the history of the very first computers.

In 1947, at Harvard University, computer scientist Grace Hopper discovered a real bug trapped inside the Harvard Mark II computer.

From that day on, errors in code have been called “bugs.”

This anecdote was shared with us by Lysa, coding teacher for all our students from Y2 onward.

Sport sessions with Morgan

Our sports coach Morgan is deeply committed to stimulating team spirit, developing motor skills, and offering joyful moments of sport to all our students.

This is the perfect opportunity to thank him for the values he shares, the energy he brings, and the enthusiasm he inspires in the children of Union School, where he is unanimously adored.

If ever proof were needed, one only has to hear his name chanted by the entire school each time he comes to join the children at lunchtime.

As you know, at Union School we are deeply committed to supporting the wonderful initiatives that emerge from our community.

This is why we were delighted to highlight the opening of Belén by Belén. By the way, her bakery and coffee shop was recently featured by Le Figaro among the small new Parisian addresses worth discovering. We warmly encourage you to stop by if you have not yet !

In the same spirit, we are equally happy to share that Melissa is opening a new wellness space MLS Beauty Studio dedicated to both parents and children, located 18 Rue Marbeuf. We can only encourage you to book an appointment and enjoy a truly special moment with her.
